No. 002 • Old World, Surf
Printed paper on poster board, made for a drawing class assignment in 2005, framed. Cathedral interiors, world maps, celestial globes, surfers. Cut by scissors at first. Then a torn edge, by accident, and more of them after.
BUILD NOTES
Create a 2D collage on poster board. That was the prompt. Some people used color. Not me. All images were found online, printed on printer paper in black and white. Glued with an Elmer's glue stick. 2005 image search was not the same. Days of finding images. Then a few sessions of weaving pieces together and gluing them in place. In the beginning, all cut by scissors. Then I tore something by accident and liked the edge. I used more of them.
WHAT FOLLOWED
A 3D mixed media piece, inspired by this collage. The 3D piece didn't survive. The study did.
THE COST
I didn't recognize the pattern then and I haven't beaten it in the 21 years since.
